Be in prayer for our mission team going overseas May 8th—17th.  Join the team in a Hymn Sing and prayer time on Sunday, March 4th, at 6pm.

The mission team is planning on taking t-shirts to the children.  The children range from ages 5 to 18 with an equal number of boys and girls.  Please bring used t-shirts without holes to the church office.

Ushers Needed

There is a need for two additional ushers for Sunday morning services.  This is a very special and rewarding church ministry to be a part of.  If you are interested, please contact Mike Adams at (714) 998-3931.

Taft Avenue
Partner High School

We are graduating three students this year on June 12th at 3:30 PM.  We are very proud of all three students who have become amazing young adults.  Jonathan Ward has been finishing his high school program and taking ROP Culinary classes.  He wants to become a cook at a fine restaurant.  Monica Liuizzi plans to attend community college in Fullerton and Ania Hodges has been accepted at Chapman University in Orange and plans to start in fall 2009.

SCRIP

MOTHER’S DAY IS MAY 11TH!  May I suggest Bath & Body Works or See’s Candy scrip for the mom in your life?  Mom shouldn’t have to cook on her day.  There are plenty of scrip restaurants to choose from.

UNLESS YOU TAKE THE BUS, you need to buy gas for your car.  Don’t worry about having enough cash, buy scrip!  You have your choice of Arco, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, or Texaco scrip available to purchase every Sunday morning.

Sometime I feel guilty for the wrong reasons.  Here is one of them: I get to read and study the Scriptures and I read about godly men and women and their thoughts about loving God.  Jerry Bridges is one of those people, and so is James Packer.  The following quotations are from two of their excellent books.  J.I. Packer’s book, Keep in Step with the Spirit, on the Holy Spirit was invaluable to me as I preached a series through the relevant article in our statement of faith.  It is by far the best overall treatment of the Spirit, and His work in our lives, in print today.  I heartily recommend it to you!  However, I should recommend some other writers and their books also.  Elisabeth Elliot and her book, The Liberty of Obedience; any of Donald Carson’s books; John Piper’s God is the Gospel is an excellent exposition of God and the gospel; and any Ajith Fernando books.  Of course, the Bible should be our primary text, only the Scriptures are inspired; however, to the extent that other writers help us understand the Bible and point us to the Savior, they are very helpful in this life.  Be sure to test all they say by the Word of Truth.

“In the words of nineteenth-century Scottish theologian John Brown, ‘Holiness does not consist in mystic speculations, enthusiastic fervors, or uncommanded austerities; it consists in thinking as God thinks, and willing as God wills.’  Neither does holiness mean, as is so often thought, adhering to a list of ‘do’s and don’ts,’ mostly don’ts.  When Christ came into the world, He said, ‘I have come to do your will, O God’ (Hebrews 10:7).  This is the example we are to follow.  In all of our thoughts, all of our actions, in every part of our character, the ruling principle that motivates and guides us should be the desire to follow Christ in doing the will of the Father.  This is the high road we must follow in the pursuit of holiness.”  Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness.

“…there is need to blow the whistle on the sidelining of personal holiness which has been a general trend among Bible-centered Western Christians during my years of ministry.  It is not a trend that one would have expected, since Scripture insists so strongly that Christians are called to holiness, that God is pleased with holiness but outraged by ungodliness, and that without holiness none will see the Lord.  But the shift of Christian interest away from the pursuit of holiness to focus on fun and fulfillment, ego massage and techniques for present success, and public issues that carry no challenge to one’s personal morals, is a fact.  To my mind it is a sad and scandalous fact, and one that needs to be reversed.  With the fading of interest in supernatural holiness, interest has grown in supernatural healing and in the supernatural power of evil with which Christians must battle.  My hope is that this heightened awareness of the reality of the supernatural will soon reconnect with what Walter Marshall, the Puritan, long ago called the ‘gospel mystery of sanctification.’”  J.I. Packer, Rediscovering Holiness.

Pastor Mike Fisher tells us, “When we started this adventure, in 2003, it was clear in our minds that God had prepared us and called us to mentor and train national pastors; God narrowed our focus to one country.  Soon, we clarified our vision to see 1000 new house-churches planted in this country in our lifetime.  As of January, 2008: 76 pastors have completed the 2-year training program, and have planted 75+ new house churches.  Praise the Lord there are 82 pastors on track for this valuable training and preparation.”  As Mike & Kathy return this May 8-17, five people from our church will be joining them for a “vision/fact finding trip.”  Our Pastor, Bob Burris, will be part of the teaching team while Allen Ronk, Gary Meier, Mary Beth Ramlo and Sofia Meier will be visiting and working with the 275 orphans.  Uphold them daily with your prayers for wisdom and energy to minister in the strong power of the Spirit; for travel safety and for good health sustained.

Professor Liliana Romaniuc (the God-given director of  R.W.C.S.) has successfully shepherded her facility and students with the goal of educating children biblically and fulfilling the schools vision to “serve the Kingdom by building a nation one child at a time.”  They are praising the Lord, for He is doing this.  God has opened a new door of influence for the Richard Wurmbrand Christian School in Iasi, Romania.  Professor Romaniuc reports…“a few months ago we started training 250 principals from public schools in a program accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education.  We teach them how to manage their schools and how to lead teachers and students so that their schools will become more effective.  Beyond the theoretical aspects of educational management, we use our school as an example of approaching education from a Christian perspective.”  It is vitally important that we remain faithful in our prayer and financial support.  For more detailed information talk to Tom Walters.

If you are not reading the Little Texas Gazette from our faithful representatives in Isai, Romania, you can pick it up at the Missions Table.  Jeri Little tells us how the Lord led them to launch a small economic enterprise in Moldova with Oleg’s small business idea.  Oleg was raised in a Moldovan orphanage and he came to Christ in his late teens at a summer outreach camp.  Over the years he has grown in the Lord, becoming a vital part of the ministry in Taul.  Now at the age of twentyfour, on a shoestring budget, with great faith and gritty determination, he has established the “Happy.net”.
